Message My old Bose system is in dire need of replacement. The HU was replaced before I got the car with a retractable face Alpine, that at the time, would also allow you to "blue tooth" with an analogue cell ph and an additional box. In order for this HU to work with the bose speaker/amps, I guess there has to be an additional box that adjusts the signal somehow, in order to work with the low impedance speaker/amp units.

I would like to keep the resonant boxes. These are clamshells, making it easy to replace the tops with a piece of MDF as a surface to mount new speakers. In the rear, the problem is twofold, the boxes (in particular one of them) are very shallow, requiring quite a flat speaker (of no more than 2 inches from flange to magnet); also, all new speakers have a rubber bump-up (the vibration flex point) that hits the plastic interrior parts holding the speaker grille. To top these two problems, the speaker grilles are small to pass the sound of a 6 or 6.5 speaker. (The non-Bose speakers were 4 x 6 and mounted to a metal bracket. Problem with these is that choices for these are somewhat limited.)

I have yet to get into the doors, so I have no idea what challenges await me there.

Looking for ideas or suggestions for how to mount speakers in the rear.
